Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres is best known as the painter of the odalisques. Obsessed with the ideal of beauty, he glorified the female form, with its porcelain whiteness and its curves… Ingres struck a path between Classicism and the influence of the Orient. You will see the famous women bathers in “The Turkish Bath” and also some of his historic paintings such as “Oedipus and the Sphinx” and, of course, his portraits, with the famous “Monsieur Bertin”.
