Named Euphrosyne, Thalia and Aglaia, they embody mirth, abundance and splendour. They are the Three Graces, daughters of Jupiter and companions of Venus. A very prized subject as early as the Renaissance, it allowed for a triple representation of the female nude in all its ideal beauty. Observe their grace in the painting by Raphael and the delicacy of their veils in Botticelli’s “La Primavera” or in a magnificent work by Cranach recently acquired by the Louvre Museum.
