A key artist of the Italian Renaissance, Raffaello Santi (1483-1520) developed a classical art form, based on drawing, which made him the model for many painters in the following centuries. His favourite theme was the Madonna: you can admire, for example, “The Sistine Madonna” in Dresden and the “The Virgin and Child with St John the Baptist” in the Louvre. Notice the gentle harmony and the delicate sensuality in “The Three Graces” or the powerful human presence in “The Portrait of Baldassare Castiglione”. Enjoy your visit!
