This episode presents the Vals-les-Bains Thermal Baths, an architectural masterpiece designed by Peter Zumthor. The architect reimagined the traditional concept of the bath by harmoniously integrating water and stone in a poetic dialogue. He used local quartzite to anchor the building in its natural environment, creating an atmosphere of calm and serenity. Innovative for its time, Zumthor staged water in all its forms – from flowing to mist – to offer a unique multisensory experience. This project is an outstanding example of minimalist architecture, combining simplicity, functionality, and a deep connection to nature.
