Antiques Roadshow is at Roundhay Park in Leeds, where highlights include a rare Rolex ‘double red’ Sea-Dweller watch, a gold handbag that was left in a safety deposit box by an anonymous benefactor, and an album of rare Antarctic photos. Mark Hill admires a collection of Art Deco ‘Goldscheider’ masks that divide opinion while Wayne Colquhoun is delighted by carved wooden ‘Mouseman’ tableware by renowned maker Robert Thompson. Marc Allum is excited to see an album of rare and valuable photos of an Antarctic expedition that had been gathering dust in a Leeds library while Susan Rumfitt is intrigued by the tale of a gold handbag left to a Yorkshire family by an anonymous benefactor. Militaria expert Bill Harriman wonders at the intricate detail in a World War II spy radio transmitter that would have been dropped behind enemy lines for use by undercover agents. The team are also intrigued by a selection of ‘modern treasures’ including a large number of colourful Carlton Ware moneyboxes, whilst Mark Hill can’t resist playing a game of Space Invaders on an original table-top games system.
