Andy Warhol, back to China

Images

In 1972, after a period of artistic self-doubt and a series of film experiments, Andy Warhol returned to painting. A subversive at heart, he abandoned Hollywood stars and seized upon the symbol of late-20th-century totalitarianism, Mao Tse-Tung, transforming him into a pop icon. Ten years after his first Mao, in 1982, the Pope of Consumerism visited China. 26 years later, we retrace his footsteps for 5 days in China with Christopher Makos. rediscovering his mythical trip with Andy Warhol. A constant back-and-forth between the China of today and the China of 1982. It's also an opportunity to compare the photos taken by Makos on his initial trip with those he took on his return to China.
