Johnson Building

The Johnson Wax Administrative Buildings stand as a masterpiece of Frank Lloyd Wright, one of the greatest architects of the 20th century. At first glance, the building surprises: no windows but Pyrex facades, long brick walls, curves. Everywhere it hides, you don't know where to enter. Seen from above, it has this streamlined profile like the fuselage of an airplane or the hull of a boat. Seen from below, it hides and protects. Closed to the solicitations of the outside world, it is the world - a place that encourages concentration and work. A self-sufficient space. And yet, there is nothing oppressive in this place that promotes concentration. It is a sensual place, with warm colors - the famous Cherokee red invented by Frank Lloyd Wright - and rounded volumes. The architect had promised Johnson a building where everyone could feel like they were in a pine forest. He imagined a forest of tree-shaped columns: a metal base, a very thin cylindrical column that rises, widening to end in an elegant circular cup. The documentary shows how incredibly innovative this work was in its design.
